Safe Harbor de-identification
Quick answer
The HIPAA method that de-identifies health data by removing 18 specified identifiers and confirming no actual knowledge of re-identification.
The identifiers include names, geographic units smaller than a state (with a narrow zip code exception), dates more specific than the year, contact details and record numbers.
It is prescriptive and easy to audit, but can remove details that make data useful.
