Question
Do I need customer consent to license support tickets?
By SourceX Editorial · Updated
Short answer
It depends on your contracts, privacy notices and the law that applies. If tickets are properly de-identified and contracts allow it, explicit consent is often not required. Where customer contracts restrict use, or personal data remains, consent or exclusion may be needed.
Part of: How licensing works
Explanation#
Check customer agreements for confidentiality and data-use limits.
Removing personal details reduces privacy-law obligations but not contractual ones.
Rights and privacy#
- Confirm customer, vendor and employee agreements allow the use
- Remove or de-identify personal details before anything leaves the company
- Approve the final dataset and permitted uses in writing
How licensing works#
A business describes its data, buyer demand is assessed, scope and permitted use are proposed, the data is prepared and de-identified, an agreement is signed, and the approved dataset is delivered. See data licensing for detail.
