Question

Do AI labs buy non-English business data?

By SourceX Editorial · Updated

Short answer

Some do, when it is relevant, lawfully obtained and prepared. Many models are weaker outside English, so real business language in other languages is scarce and useful. Buyers license it for defined uses, such as training or evaluating specific models, and expect personal details removed and proof the owner has the right to share it.

Part of: How licensing works

Explanation#

Demand depends on what a buyer is building. Non-English business data is most useful when it reflects real professional work at depth, covers several years and links actions to outcomes.

Data from operations outside the U.S. may be subject to local privacy law.

Examples#

  • Spanish-language support tickets
  • Multilingual translation memories

Rights and privacy#

  • Confirm customer, vendor and employee agreements allow the use
  • Remove or de-identify personal details before anything leaves the company
  • Approve the final dataset and permitted uses in writing

How licensing works#

A business describes its data, buyer demand is assessed, scope and permitted use are proposed, the data is prepared and de-identified, an agreement is signed, and the approved dataset is delivered. See data licensing for detail.
