Question

Can I license data anonymously?

By SourceX Editorial · Updated

Short answer

Often, yes. Many licenses keep the supplier's identity confidential, with buyers knowing only the industry and size. Your name may still appear in the contract and be disclosed to the buyer under confidentiality, depending on what is negotiated.

Part of: How licensing works

Explanation#

Confidentiality of supplier identity is a standard, negotiable clause.

Records themselves are prepared so they do not reveal the company, customers or staff.

Rights and privacy#

  • Confirm customer, vendor and employee agreements allow the use
  • Remove or de-identify personal details before anything leaves the company
  • Approve the final dataset and permitted uses in writing

How licensing works#

A business describes its data, buyer demand is assessed, scope and permitted use are proposed, the data is prepared and de-identified, an agreement is signed, and the approved dataset is delivered. See data licensing for detail.
