Glossary
Redaction
Quick answer
Removing or masking sensitive information, such as names, account numbers or addresses, from a record before it is shared.
Redaction can replace values with blanks, labels like [NAME] or consistent placeholders that keep records readable. It applies to text, scanned images, audio and video.
Automated tools catch most sensitive values, but human review of samples is standard because missed details in free text, attachments and images are common.
