Data minimization
Quick answer
Collecting, keeping and sharing only the data needed for a specific purpose.
It is a core principle in GDPR and many U.S. state privacy laws. In practice it means dropping fields, records and time ranges that a use does not need.
When licensing data, minimization means sharing only the fields and records a buyer's agreed use requires, which also lowers privacy and confidentiality risk.
