Data Value Index
The SourceX Enterprise Data Value Framework.
The SourceX Enterprise Data Value Framework (the basis for a future Data Value Index) is a SourceX-developed framework, not an industry standard, describing the drivers that influence the value of business data for AI training and evaluation. It is currently published as methodology only: SourceX has not yet published index values or market prices.
Value drivers
| Driver | What it measures | Direction |
|---|---|---|
| Uniqueness | How hard the data is to obtain elsewhere | Increases |
| Domain expertise | Specialist knowledge embedded in records | Increases |
| Human-generated signal | Human decisions, writing and conversations | Increases |
| Scale | Records, hours or documents available | Increases |
| Recency | How current the data is | Increases |
| Data cleanliness | Consistency, completeness, labelling | Increases |
| Rights | Clarity of ownership and consents | Increases |
| Exclusivity | Whether the licence is exclusive | Increases price |
| Reproducibility | Whether others could recreate it | Reduces |
| AI utility | Measured usefulness for a target task | Increases |
| Preparation cost | Cleaning and formatting effort | Reduces net value |
| Privacy burden | Personal and regulated content to remove | Reduces net value |
Illustrative example — not real data
How the framework could describe a hypothetical dataset: 6 years of support tickets from a specialist software company. Ratings are qualitative and invented for illustration.
| Driver | Example rating |
|---|---|
| Uniqueness | High |
| Domain expertise | High |
| Human-generated signal | High |
| Scale | Medium |
| Recency | High |
| Privacy burden | Medium |
| Preparation cost | Medium |
Status
Index values will be published only once SourceX has sufficient real data and a documented methodology. Until then this page describes the framework only.
